Following two stimulating meetings, the first one (“Jurists' Law and European Identity”: see here) at the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (on 26 and 27 April 2017), the second one(“Democratic Legitimization of the Judicial Rulings Influence on a System of Law Making”) at the Supreme Administrative Court in Warsaw (on 10 and 11 May 2018), the time has now come (after the interregnum of the pandemic) to hold a third meeting. It will take place on the 2nd and 3rd of May, in Coimbra, at Colégio da Trindade, with the thematic core “Constitutional Consciousness and the Autonomy of Law”.

It is expected the treatment as open as possible of problems such as constitutional positivism and non-positivism, the possibility of extending constitutional consciousness to the practices of a “dynamic interpretation ” (and its effects of integration based on shared values or practical commitments, but also developed from the perspective of narratively constructed identities), the relationship between juridicalness and constitutionality, the counterpoint between universalist and communitarian claims, the demands of participatory democracy, the counterpoints constitutional consciousness/general juridical consciousness, interpretation according to the Constitution /interpretation according to principles, material constitution/procedural constitution, final program/relational program, last but not least, the question about “constitutional patriotism” and the possibilities of translating this one ( shaped by social consciousness) on a supranational level (with particular focus on the discourse of Europe or the institutional context of the European Union).

With three special guests from the Vilnius University, the meeting brings together scholars from the following institutions: University of Łódź, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan , Jagiellonian University (Kraków), Marie Curie Sklodowska University of Lublin, Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Universidade de Évora, Universidade Lusófona, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Universidade de Coimbra.
