Programa Almeida Garret

Introduction

The Almeida Garrett Program is an internal mobility program for public university students, aimed at promoting quality and strengthening the national dimension of higher education. Within the framework of student mobility, the Almeida Garrett Program offers the possibility of studying for a period, with full academic recognition, at a Portuguese public university.

Students participating in this program only pay tuition fees at their home university. No scholarships are awarded to support the mobility of selected students.

Goals

  • Contribute to the development of quality lifelong learning and the possibilities it offers
  • Strengthen personal fulfillment, social cohesion, active citizenship and national citizenship
  • Promoting creativity, competitiveness and employability
  • Increasing participation in lifelong learning
  • Promote learning and Portuguese culture
  • Exploit innovative results, products and processes

Duration of mobility

In 1st cycle courses, mobility can only take place from the 2nd year onwards and provided the student has already completed at least 60 ECTS. In 2nd cycle courses, mobility can only take place in the 2nd semester.

Generally, students can only undertake a single period of mobility at national universities. However, mobility of up to one year may be authorized in special cases previously accepted by both universities.

Academic recognition

All curricular units that students take at the host university must be fully recognized by the home university as long as they correspond to what was previously defined in the Study Contract. Any changes to the initially approved Study Contract must be communicated to and approved by the home university.

If students enrol in extra curricular units, their credits may not be recognized by the home university.
