The EJIP, Meeting of Young Investigators in Paleontology (originally Encuentro de Jóvenes Investigadores en Paleontología), is an annual congress run by and for young paleontologists. Born in Spain in 2002, it soon won over the (few but interested) young Portuguese paleontologists and, year after year, gained an Iberian status. In 2021, the XIX edition of the EJIP will take place in Coimbra (Portugal), at the Faculty of Science and Technology. The organization is in charge of students and researchers from the Center for Geosciences (University of Coimbra), the Instituto Dom Luiz (University of Lisbon), the Institute of Earth Sciences (University of Évora), the Department of Earth Sciences (Universidade Nova of Lisbon), the Living Science Center of Lousal and the Evolutionary Biology Group of the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia (Spain). It is the third time that the EJIP has been celebrated in Portugal, having passed through Torres Vedras in 2009 and by Pombal in 2017. Thanks to the commitment of all the researchers who participated in the EJIP, including its founders and later generations, the EJIP managed to reach the nowadays maintaining the spirit that characterizes it: a meeting outside the big urban centers, accessible to 'young' pockets, in which the assistants can expose their research (many for the first time) and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. In addition, the EJIP promotes collaboration between researchers and institutions, allowing them to create synergies that develop the potential of their investigations, providing them with a greater impact.

'Heritage and dissemination in Paleontology', the theme chosen by the organization for this edition of the EJIP, finds in the district of Coimbra a series of examples that embody it, from Serra de Buçaco, one of the cradles of geology in Portugal, to Cabo Mondego, holder of enormous geological interest and where the first dinosaur footprints published in Portugal were discovered, or Rabaçal, in Condeixa-a-Nova, with a sedimentary sequence very rich in fossils from different groups and with international relevance.

Aware of the uncertainty of any plans for 2021, the organization is preparing a mixed congress, in person and online, whose limitations and vacancies will be at the mercy of the rules that emerge. If you really want to participate, do not hesitate and sign up now. More information at:
