Researchers from the Geosciences Center are the world's top Geotourism research. Two researchers from the Center for Geosciences of the University of Coimbra were highlighted in a study recently published in the journal Geosciences. Maria Helena Henriques and Rui Pena dos Reis are among the top 15 researchers in the field of Geotourism and Geoconservation worldwide. The study carried out by an international team carried out a bibliometric analysis using the Scopus database, having recognized the enormous impact of the publications of those two authors at a global level in the area of ​​geological heritage. Between 1984 and 2019, Portugal ranks eighth in terms of the number of publications, and fourth in terms of the number of citations to published works. Highlight for a 2011 publication, of which Maria Helena Henriques and Rui Pena dos Reis are the first authors, which is the second most cited in the world.
