This video presents the OnOff project (Combination of the onshore and offshore sedimentary record of tsunamis - FCT - PTDC/CTA-GEO/28941/2017) which is led by a professor from the Department of Earth Sciences.

This project is composed of an international team that also includes researchers from the University of Lisbon, University of Algarve, Hydrographic Institute, Portuguese Environment Agency, University of Aachen (Germany), University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and the Geological Survey of the United States (USGS).

Sedimentological, geophysical, geochemical and numerical modeling techniques are used in this project to obtain a better combination of terrestrial Holocene sedimentary records and the Algarve platform.

Results already obtained made it possible to establish, in an innovative way, a new return period for catastrophic tsunamigenic events for the Iberian Peninsula. These results also contribute to a better understanding of the geodynamics of the area
