On the 20th of July, at 15:00, the tribute event to Prof. Dr. Miguel Marques de Magalhães Ramalho, a prominent figure in the geological community, who was a visiting professor at ULisboa Sciences for several years. The event will take place at the Geological Museum, Lisbon room. The organization is from LNEG.
Prof. Miguel Ramalho graduated in Geological Sciences (1959) and PhD (1972), from Univ. Lisbon. Most of his scientific research activity was mainly on benthic foraminifera and calcareous algae (systematics, paleoecology, biostratigraphy), and microfacies analysis, in Upper Jurassic-Early Cretaceous formations in Portugal.
He was the author of more than a hundred national and international scientific publications, technical opinions, didactic texts, scientific dissemination and related to nature conservation.
In 1967 he joined the Geological Service of Portugal (SGP), an institution (and its successor, from 1993, the Instituto Geológico e Mineiro) to which he dedicated himself intensely throughout his prestigious professional career, from 1995 onwards as a researcher-coordinator. He was director of the Geological Cartography Service, which he decisively promoted (1978-1992) and deputy director-general/Director (1992-1993) of the SGP; vice president of the IGM (1993-2003); dept coordinator. of Geology at IGM-INETI and LNEG; directed the Geological Museum.
