Licenciatura no Campus da UC na Figueira da Foz
Presentation
In a degree in Marine Biology (LBMAR), teaching with a strong practical laboratory component is essential. These characteristics are only appropriate for a classroom-based teaching system, which allows knowledge to be applied in new scenarios and contexts, both in the workplace and in more fundamental research.)
LBMAR's curricular design has been structured to develop a coherent and sequential set of competencies, skills and knowledge that allows for solid, multidisciplinary, coherent and lasting training. This degree aims to provide highly qualified professionals for a growing area of activity and research that is in great demand locally, nationally and internationally. As is well known, the field of LBMAR is developing rapidly, with constant innovation. A curriculum has therefore been created which, as well as being up-to-date, provides solid foundations to accompany future development. Since there are already a few courses in this area in the country, a curricular plan was created that is completely different from existing offers, with courses in the area of the Economy of the Sea (4th semester) and in the introduction to Marine Law (6th semester).
The curriculum is based on an initial understanding of the processes at work in the marine environment. In the second part of the course, observation and monitoring requires mastery of various tools and methodologies, as well as data processing. These approaches complement the mastery of field and laboratory techniques from which quantitative data is obtained, providing support for developing and applying different mitigation solutions to problems that jeopardize biodiversity, the functioning of the marine ecosystem and the sustainability of the ocean (with several curricular units addressing these issues).
