We are pleased to announce that the Centre for Functional Ecology (CFE) has joined the Agroecology Coalition (https://agroecology-coalition.org/). The purpose of the Coalition is to accelerate the transformation of food systems through agroecology, guided by the 13 principles of agroecology defined by the High Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) that are aligned with the 10 Elements of Agroecology adopted by the 197 FAO Members in December 2019. As of July 2022, coalition members include 44 countries and 94 organizations, including farmers' organizations; research organizations, indigenous peoples' organizations, United Nations organizations, philanthropic organizations and civil society organizations. CFE will contribute to two Working Groups: 1. Research and Innovative Working Group, and 2. Policies Working Group. The recent Horizon Europe project "Agroecology for weeds-GOOD", coordinated by the University of Coimbra and Professor Helena Freitas will contribute to the work of the coalition, seeking to network globally.
