The theater in the deconstruction of gender stereotypes

QUORUM

Type of activity: Theater performance

Time: 30 may 2023, 9:30pm

Location: DOME DEC, Pole 2

Description:

A group of people who study and research at the University of Coimbra, in various areas of knowledge, came together to build a theatrical performance about gender stereotypes in academia. The result is a collective performance that reflects on issues of power, representation, gender, parenting, precariousness, masculinity, productivity, and the search for balance.

In every decision we make, in every act we perform, how do we maintain justice?

This activity will be presented at the Equality Days.

Target groups: Students, researchers, collaborators, higher education teachers.

Objective: Collaborative creation and public presentation of a theater play that promotes reflection and discussion about gender stereotypes related to higher education.

Main Activities: Collaborative creation and public presentation of a play that promotes reflection and discussion on gender stereotypes related to higher education.

After a call for people interested in participating, within the community of the University of Coimbra, a working group will be established to collaboratively build, over a set of discussion and writing sessions, a dramaturgy that addresses gender issues associated with higher education, academic careers in teaching and research, hierarchical positions in academia, other university-related professions, and other related topics that will certainly arise during the discussion process.

The people participating in the script development will also be protagonists in the final representation of the script developed, embodying and giving voice to the issues raised by the project.

A relevant feature of this initiative will be to get the academic community itself to reflect and talk publicly about gender issues in the community.
