Recovering the value of books, both in the context of student education and teacher training, is a relevant concern in some sectors of education. On the assumption that reading is a powerful exercise, enhancing critical thinking, we insist on the importance of this object, which has assumed different forms and registers.

In the proposed session, the idea that the word “book” immediately makes us invoke its body will be highlighted; the cover will be invoked – if at all – by addition. On the other hand, we retain the authorship of the body, but neglect the authorship of the cover. And yet, the cover often provides us with the first impression of the book, which can lead us towards its body or away from it. Let us then focus on the “cover that embraces the book”, under the guidance of an author and researcher in the field, Ana Boavida (FCTUC).

This training, co-organized by CEIS20, has integrated researcher Helena Damião (Group 5 – Educational Policies and Organizations and Educational Dynamics) on its Organizing Committee.
