Luís Trindade, a researcher at CEIS20, looks at four songs from Portuguese popular music as evidence of the changes that have occurred in Portuguese society from the end of the Second World War to the period before 56 April. “Popular music was a field for negotiating national identity in a context characterised in Portugal by the antagonism between the isolationist and authoritarian drive and the unstoppable economic and social internationalisation”.
