Launch of the book “From Rome to Portugal. From Empire to Kingdom. A 1500-year journey through the Coimbra region”

The book De Roma a Portugal. Do Império ao Reino. Uma viagem de 1500 anos pela região de Coimbra” was presented at the S. Francisco Convent on 14 December. The book was coordinated by Pedro C. Carvalho, assisted by Sofia Lacerda in the research team, both researchers at CEIS20.

This book is the result of a long research project aimed at the general public. It tells the story of 22 interconnected municipalities, based on the Roman and medieval heritage that can still be seen in each of them. As well as being an educational resource, it is also a reference work for the promotion of tourism in the region, and is the result of interdisciplinary work carried out with the collaboration of local authorities of the CIM Coimbra Region, and at the University of Coimbra.

The book launch was attended by the Mayor of Coimbra, the Deputy Secretary of State for the Minister of Culture, the Vice-Rector of the University of (Professor Delfim Leão), and the President of the Coimbra Region Intermunicipal Council.
