The Journal Estudos do Século XX is a prominent publication of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies — CEIS20, dedicated to critical reflection and interdisciplinary debate on pressing issues that structure and affect contemporary societies. With an annual periodicity, and a rigorous system of scientific arbitration, the journal is published by the University of Coimbra Press.

Volume no. 22 (2022) includes a Thematic Dossier dedicated to the Digital Humanities, coordinated by the Centre's researchers Maria Manuel Borges and Ana Isabel Ribeiro. The Digital Humanities are an emerging area that harbours distinct epistemic practices in the area of the Humanities. Such practices have as a common emphasis the application of digital technology in their interrogation processes, construction, methods, visualization and analysis and dissemination of research.

The encounter between digital technology and the Humanities results in a paradigm shift in the way we think and produce science and culture. This look alters the very fabric of the humanities by creating new objects, by increasing collaborative work, markedly multidisciplinary, by societal involvement and by expanding the dissemination of results.

This issue aims to reflect this epistemic diversity, embodied in methods, approaches and perspectives, which prove the richness and necessarily plural view of the Digital Humanities, which benefit from the opportunities generated by Open Science.

The Volume also includes the sections Multidisciplinary Dialogues and Book Reviews.
