26 to 28 October | Colégio Almada Negreiros, Lisbon + Online

The International Colloquium Return to animality: theoretical positions, cultural approaches and artistic manifestations will take place on 26, 27 and 28 October at the Colégio Almada Negreiros and online.

For centuries, Western man has fought against his own animality, taking refuge in civilisation and culture to prevent a return to the origins or a zero degree of human nature. He has used his extraordinary ability to transform living beings in general (which distinguishes him from other animals) to create new forms of life that have revolutionised nature itself and the theory of the animal subject.

The aim of this colloquium is to create an eminently plural and interdisciplinary space for reflection on this issue, inviting dialogue between different perspectives and disciplines.

On 26 October, CEIS20 researcher João Maia will present a paper entitled “Simbiose e epigenética: pontes para uma biologia unificada?” (Symbiosis and epigenetics: bridges to a unified biology?).

The colloquium is organised by the Institute for the Study of Literature and Tradition and by NOVA FCSH. Admission is free.
