5 June | 10:00 | Casa da Escrita, Coimbra

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the classification of the University of Coimbra, Alta e Sofia as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, CEIS20 is organising the meeting “The Song of Coimbra in Debate”, which will take place on 5 June 2023 at 10:00 at the Casa da Escrita in Coimbra. The scientific project “The Song of Coimbra in Debate: an Integrated Research Proposal” will be presented, followed by a debate with the community. Admission is free. The event will also be streamed on the CIES20 Youtube channel.

The Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies (CEIS20) of the University of Coimbra is launching a scientific platform for the study of the Coimbra Song and related cultural practices. As a long-term project, it aims to be an inclusive and multidisciplinary space that can address the “Canção de Coimbra” in its diversity and complexity of musical genres and practices, social contexts, geographies and historical trajectories.

The initial phase of this project will be devoted mainly to mapping sources and listening to the community that preserves, recreates and reinvents these traditions. To this end, we call for the participation of all those who are committed to the memory and understanding of this unique musical expression. Therefore, we want this scientific project to be built in debate and in close collaboration with the community of the “Canção de Coimbra”.
