Presentation
The Portuguese humanist Aquiles Estaço, philologist, bibliophile, orator and secretary to three Popes, was born on 12 June 1524. To celebrate his work, the Centre for Classical and Humanistic Studies and the Portuguese Rhetoric Society will be holding the international conference "Commentary in European Humanism. On the 500th anniversary of the birth of Achilles Estaço".

The general theme of the meeting could be dealt with from one of the following perspectives:
- Greco-Latin commentaries of antiquity;
- medieval commentary in philosophy, theology and literature;
- humanist commentary and its relevance in the literary production of the Renaissance;
- humanist commentary and the circulation of classical authors (e.g. Cicero, Virgil, Horace);
- the repercussions of the critical-philological work of Aquiles Estaço:
- on the reception of the authors he commented on, Cicero, Catullus, Tibullus, Horace, etc..;
- in his own work, poetry, speeches, editions of classical and patristic authors;
- in the formation of the Estacian library, the original nucleus of the Vallicellian Library (Rome).
Communication proposals must include the following information:
- title of the communication;
- e-mail address;
- affiliation;
- abstract (maximum 250 words);
- 5-10 keywords.
Accepted languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian.
Length of paper: 20 minutes.
Acceptance replies will be communicated from 15 March.
