The year 2023 started with the signing of the Cooperation Protocol between the Rectory of the University of Coimbra (UC) and the Department of Life Sciences of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, which establishes and regulates the terms of installation and operation of the University of Coimbra Bacteria Culture Collection (UCCCB) as an integral part of the Technology and Service Platforms of the University of Coimbra. The Cooperation Protocol was signed by the UC Vice-Rector for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Professor Luís Simões da Silva, the Director of the Department of Life Sciences, Professor Miguel Pardal, and the UCCCB Coordinator, Professor Paula Morais.

The Technology and Service Platforms of the University of Coimbra are interface infrastructures of the R&D system that take advantage of the knowledge and technology held by the UC to answer the challenges and needs of world society. Within this framework, the UCCCB was also born from the long journey of knowledge and resources acquired in microbiology at UC, and it is also today a UC instrument that responds to the challenges faced by society in areas such as environment, health, food, or energy. In this way, the UCCCB supports the scientific and technological development of institutions and companies, and places at their disposal a wide range of microbiology services. As part of the UC Technology and Service Platforms ecosystem, the UCCCB services can be also consulted on the UC Lab Portal.
